Volkswagen Vento 2.0 GL 4d (1992/J) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Around half the price of the equivalent Golf GTi.
Costs
Cambelt replacement, full service and brake discs for around £210 inc VAT at an independent.
-
On the road
Driving
Torquey engine, good gearbox change and choice of ratios.
Performance
Not supremely quick, but good midrange and fun to drive.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Very reliable so far, known problems with rear electric windows i.e. the wiring breaks in the rear pillars.
Image
Largely unknown by most people, mine has the GT options so has GTi mouldings and BBS alloys. Lack of image means insurance is around half of the equivalent GTi Golf!
Comfort
Could do with sportier seats, easily solved by buying a Golf GTi interior, but is very comfortable for all journeys.
-
Security and Service
Security
No alarm, no immobilser- although no one wants to nick it!
Service
Never been near a main dealer.
