Volvo 440 1.8 Li 5d (1993/K) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Bought for £500. Definitely worth every penny.
Costs
Renault engine and gearbox, not bad on parts. Insurance is very low in comparison to other 1.8 cars.

On the road
Driving
Amazing drive if you push the low gears. VERY smooth ride in high gears. No PAS and this car really needs it! Skids quite easily, especially in wet weather.
Performance
Unbelievable! With no extraneous weight on board, 0-60mph < 8s!! EXTREME acceleration 40-50mph in 2nd. Leaves 2.0-litre executive cars standing.

Living with it
Reliability
Not wonderful, but is at 105,000 miles and still going strong with not too many replacements. Rust can build up where you can't see i.e. base of doors.
Image
You will either love it, hate it or slowly grow to adore it - it's a Volvo! Sleek long bonnet (Long wheel base version).
Comfort
Other than lack of dashboard space for hands free / CD holder, no problems at all. Complete comfort.

Security and Service
Security
No standard security features fitted, but public image helps security... who would steal it?
Service
No contact with manufacturer.

Problems and Ownership
