Volvo 850 Estate 2.3 T5 CD Turbo 5d Auto (1997/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Very good value for equipment, comfort and performance it can't be beaten. Audi RS6 to plain Mercedes E55 to expensive. Still no comparison apart from a newer V70.walk away from anything with dents- its worthless.
Costs
Reasonable for the package. You MUST shop for the best, never buy the first you see, lots out there but lots are dogs. Any outstanding repairs aren't because the owner didn't have time, it is because of the cost! See reliability below.

On the road
Driving
A pleasure to drive, good road presence.
Performance
For its age, year and size still in its own league. Frustrated when I have to drive another car as even newer cars aren't a match for a T5.

Living with it
Reliability
Very good, expect 250K without major defect. However need to shop around. Do NOT touch with any engine defect or leaks. Rear oil seal 1000.00 in labour alone! any defects. Air con and abs are common failings.
Image
Good because it doesn't have one, left alone at traffic lights, no one treats you like a boy racer. No one is jealous. Fits in at the golf club or the car boot sale.
Comfort
Very good, CD has everything, Again better materials than a lot of new exec cars. ride can be firm, but it has to allow for performance handling.

Security and Service
Security
Helped by the understated image, security is good, but not tested!
Service
Can be pricey, shop around. I used Pillings, outstanding, friendly, professional, never failed me.
