Volvo 850 Estate 2.5 (140bhp) 5d (1996/N) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
They DO NOT hold their prices - new £23,950, got it 5 years old for £7.5k - good deal (for me).
Costs
Exhausts REMARKABLY expensive!
-
On the road
Driving
Easy to drive.
Performance
20v much more impressive than 10v.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Beware wheel alignment - both front and back are adjustable and need adjustment each year.
Comfort
Comfortable, but I had an Estate - Squeak, rattle and groan from rear seats (unless occupied - then squeak, rattle and moan).
-
Security and Service
Security
Has an alarm, but the alarm only goes off when the battery in the remote goes flat... which it does often! The immobiliser DOES work when the batteries are flat - keep spares in the car.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Crankcase breather valve blocked - blew out all the oil. Had been changed every 10k miles.
Other
Exhaust pipe from manifold broke (common fault?) - unfortunately, it's part of the cat - £700.
