Volvo 850 Saloon 2.5 GLT (170bhp) 4d Auto (1996/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
all the conceivable extras I wanted in a second hand car, more than most new cars have but button layout is a bit scattershot.
Costs
a bargain family car, look carefully for a good one that has been looked after like the one I have, its in mint condition and cost only a couple of thousand.

On the road
Driving
Probably the best motorway ride I have ever had, the car cruised at speeds and never even twitched, after owning many other different makes and models of car I would recommend.
Performance
Fuel economy is good in economy mode, but can be thirsty if you have a heavy foot, especially in the sports mode.

Living with it
Reliability
Excellent. Have only had to buy a brake bulb and wipers in the last 18 months, and that was for the MoT.
Image
Still a good looking car but dated compared to the new batch of Volvo, as the nickname goes "the flying brick" , but if it wasn't for this car saving Volvo the new breed wouldn't be here.
Comfort
As stated before a fantastic drive on the motorway, but can be a bit harsh on urban roads.

Security and Service
Security
Quite good when the key fob works, deadlocks on most models which has to be operated by the passenger side door lock, but who is likely to pinch one of these when there are newer more desirable models.
Service
Servicing can be reasonable from local garages, but not from main dealers.
