Volvo 940 Estate 2.3 SE 5d Auto (HPT) (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Depreciating now, so fairly cheap to buy second-hand. Having said that, there's a huge difference between dealers in terms of asking price, so shop around.
Costs
Not cheap to run with pricey servicing from main dealers. Fuel consumption eye-watering with autobox and spirited driving.

On the road
Driving
Good for what it is - a big box on wheels. Excellent at load lugging and on long distance runs. I take mine to southern France once every 3 weeks and nothing touches it.
Performance
Good in a straight line (have been known to surprise the likes of Focus 170 etc). On the twisty bits - forget it!

Living with it
Reliability
Excellent so far, apart from the aircon pump which needed replacing under warranty.
Image
It's a Volvo: read into that what you will!
Comfort
Fabulously comfortable in a straight line. Wallowy on bends. Good, supportive seats. All the toys.

Security and Service
Security
Mine has alarm/immobiliser, but being a Volvo I doubt it's at the top of a joyrider's list of desirable motors.
Service
Excellent, efficient and courteous sevice from my local main dealer.
