Volvo EX90 verdict

Should you buy one?
It’s hard to ignore the price of the EX90, especially the first £100k+ Volvo. That’s a huge amount of money for a family SUV, and we’re not sure it feels £25,000 better than the excellent Kia EV9 – our current favourite seven-seater.Â
But if you can ignore the price, the EX90 is a highly impressive package with one of the most refined driving experiences of any SUV on sale today. Combine that with its spacious interior and exceptional safety performance, and – like the XC90 – Volvo has made another exceptional large family car. It’s just a shame it costs so much.Â
What we like
The EX90 has a stunning interior that feels especially premium, and has the refined road manners to go with it. It’s very spacious inside, and ideal for those wanting a big seven-seat electric SUV – and great for those coming from a petrol, diesel or hybrid Volvo XC90.Â
What we don’t like
The EX90’s high price is the main obstacle, and though the related Polestar 3 is smaller (and not a seven-seater), it’s considerably cheaper if you don’t need that third row. The touchscreen-centric interior can prove annoying and the efficiency is also disappointing for something with such a big battery.
