Should you buy one?

On balance, no. The EX90 has a practical interior that feels mostly premium, and has the refined road manners to go with it. It’s very spacious inside, and ideal for those wanting a big seven-seat electric SUV – and great for those coming from a petrol, diesel or hybrid Volvo XC90.

The EX90’s high price is the main obstacle, and though the related Polestar 3 is smaller (and not a seven-seater), it’s considerably cheaper if you don’t need that third row. The touchscreen-centric interior can prove annoying and the efficiency is also disappointing for something with such a big battery.

Ultimately the EX90’s biggest problem comes in the shape of some talented rivals. The Kia EV9 is more spacious, more user friendly and costs a whole lot less, and it’s a similar story with the VW ID.Buzz.

What we like

It’s a quiet and comfortable cruiser with loads of space in rows one and two. Quality is good for the most part and there’s loads of standard equipment.

What we don’t like

The EX90 just doesn’t do enough over the cheaper EV9 to make it recommendable, and it’s frustrating inside. From the dangerously distracting infotainment system to the seat coverings that might as well be vinyl, it’s enough to stop us from recommending one.
