Volvo S40 2.0i SE 4d (1999/S) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Imported the car from Holland, saving 30% on the UK list price.
Costs
2.0 engine returns a good level of fuel economy. Parts and spares at a franchised Volvo dealer can be quite costly though.

On the road
Driving
By today"s standard it feels a bit uninspiring. Could do with more refinement in lower gears.
Performance
Performance from the 2.0 136 bhp engine is adequate. Could do with more power especially when going uphill.

Living with it
Reliability
Have experienced no problems so far.
Image
Sells to the safety conscious individual. One of the first Volvos to have curves, helping to shrug off the image that Volvo only built boxy cars
Comfort
Very comfortable spacious interior. Cabin and controls have a quality feel.

Security and Service
Security
Immobiliser and alarm fitted as standard. Also use a steering wheel lock as it is parked on the street overnight.
Service
Very good level of service from Dutch dealer. If I was to buy another Volvo I would import again. Local Volvo dealer is fine for servicing.
