Volvo S40 2.0T 4d (97) (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Bought for £10.6K from a local dealer at 2 years old. A new car would have been almost £8k more.
Costs
Price of parts not too bad, but petrol consumption is terrible - always in the 22mpg range.

Driving
A very easy car to drive. Steering can be a little uninspiring, though - I just drove an Alfa 156 which showed how it should be.
Performance
A very rapid car with the low power turbo. Real punch in the back stuff.

Living with it
Reliability
Only failed me once, when the ignition switch packed in.
Image
Lowered suspension (as standard) makes the 2.0T look rather wicked. Colour does change its looks - always buy metallic.
Comfort
Plush leather seats, comfortable rather than gripping you. Air con works well and CD/Tape/Radio has a great sound.

Security and Service
Security
Alarm and immobiliser as standard. ICE is a Volvo-only fit, so less chance of being stolen.
