Summary
What does this car say about you?
It has a bit of an old man reputation I think, but would leave most boy racers for dead. I like that.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
My parents think it is too big and too thirsty. My wife only drives it if she has too. Oddly enough, my grandad loves it.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes, but I would probably sacrifice the power and go for a diesel. Averaging 25mpg was killing my wallet. Would have to go for a high spec model too, as the basic models are spartan inside.
What are you likely to buy next?
I am now looking at a Rover 75 or a Vauxhall Omega.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£3,000
When did you buy the car?
February 2005
Did you get a good deal and why?
No. My wife picked the car up from them as I was unavailable and she immediately noticed that the engine was hesitant under acceleration and a wheel bearing was going. My father in law drove it back to them the following day but they refused to take responsibility and said that the car was fine when it was collected. It took nearly three months and almost went to solicitors to get it sorted out.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
What was the dealer like?
They were helpful enough getting the car fixed but they would not accept the fact that the car was faulty when they supplied it.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Fantastic in a straight line, really quick. Not too bad in the corners, but not a sports car. Really comfortable and great for long distance driving with the cruise control on.
What's it like to park?
It feels bigger than it is and judging where the back of the car is can be difficult - a boot spoiler would have helped.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
As mentioned above, I had a few problems. It turned out it was the fuel pump that was faulty, but it took an awfully long time to diagnose. The independent dealer had the car three weeks and gave up. It then went to a Volvo main dealer who took a further 6 weeks to find the problem.
What's most practical about your car?
The comfort and space inside. Being a saloon means it is never to be hugely practical and the boot, although bug, has a small opening.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The on board computer, with readouts of instant mpg etc.
