Volvo S60 2.4T SE 4d Geartronic (2000/X) Owner Review

Economy
Value
If compared to Merc/BMW with similar equipment levels, they're good value second hand.
Costs
Volvo are sometimes extortionate for servicing so use an independent specialist. Insurance reasonable. 23mpg around town, 28mpg mixed driving. Tyres on the 17" wheels are £100+ a corner.

Driving
Suspension has a very good compromise of comfort/handling. A bit of "tram lining" over broken surfaces, but can be reduced with good tyres and uprated suspension bushes.
Performance
It's as fast as I would want before getting advanced training. Use the geartronic box correctly and you'll fall in love with the turbo!

Living with it
Reliability
Feels very solid, and I'm sure that mechanically it will go on forever. The electronics (central locking, ABS, electronic throttle module) don't have the best reputation though, and suspension components are a bit weak.
Image
When you pull up at the lights, don't forget to check out your reflection in the shop windows...
Comfort
Very, very comfortable, as you would expect. But for pure comfort choose an S80 - the S60 is a bit more tuned for performance.

Security and Service
Security
All the usual features (alarm, immobiliser, deadlocks, etc).
Service
They seem good enough, but too expensive for servicing and parts.
