What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

A few friends knock it just because its a Volvo, some car brands have a stigma and Volvo does have one and you think 'old man'. However I owned my first Volvo when I was 21 and this is my fourth, some reason I keep going back. My family including the kids like it, they find it more upmarket than your standard Fords etc, and not asking me to park away from school & friends to drop them off so not ashamed to be seen in it..

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would definitly buy this car again. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Has the comfort style, looks and is good to drive.

What are you likely to buy next?

I like the look of the Volvo XC60 with the same D5 engine.

Car had high mileage thus price was low price for year and spec.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Always liked the build of Volvos.

What was the dealer like?

Harratts Volvo in Huddersfield. Founds the salesman very helpful and did not push me at all. I originally went looking for an S40 but after sitting in one found it cramped and the salesman was happy to open any car I wanted to try.

What's it like to drive?

The car is very smooth to drive with the Four-C active chassis/damper system. The D5 engine will eat many other cars up out there allowing you plenty of power to pull out with causing any issue. The gearchange is very smooth, probably the smoothest I have driven.

What's it like to park?

Mine is fitted with parking sensors both ends which makes this a doddle.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing has gone wrong with the car apart from it does tend to eat front tyres up quick due to the high torque of this D5 engine. Only annoyance I really had was I also planned to tow with the car, it does not appear to be correctly design for towbars even though its one of the better in the class. I opted for the detachable towball set-up however I could not get any make without having to cut the bumper.

What's most practical about your car?

The fuel economy on a run is amazing for size, weight and power of the car. I have completed a 500-mile trip to Scotland with 41mpg. No complaints for 185bhp car.

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The Four-C active chassis/damper system is well worth the extra. Mine has 2 settings comfort & sport. when towing sports setting stops the wallow effect & when solo, it loves twisty roads. And when in comfort mode motorway's or poor roads are just eaten up with little disturbance to the passengers.
