Volvo S60 (2010 - 2019) D3 (150bhp) R DESIGN 4d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
The Volvo S60. I spent about 6 months doing research and comparing various saloons, and i narrowed it down to the top 4, which was the Ford Mondeo Vignale, BMW 3 series, Volvo s60 and the Mazda 6. In the end, i opted for the Volvo. My car is the R-Design Nav with the 150bhp D3 engine, which i have had about 4 months now, i bought it when it was 8 months old.
Performance The D3 Engine has plenty of power, 150bhp, which is more than ample for the size of the car. The turbo seems to kick in nice and low, so there is no need to drop down a gear to overtake. The steering is responsive and sporty when your thrashing along country lanes, and the whole car settles down on the motorway very comfortably. Volvo claims the car will do 72mpg, but this isn't the case, when im driving very economically, the best i managed to get was 56mpg, but everyday driving, its actually more like 50. And although the steering is responsive, it certainly is not as precise as some of its main rivals, i.e the BMW 3 series. If your seeking a thrilling driving experience, this car is NOT for you. On country lanes it does seem a little fidgety and unsettled. and although precise, the steering does appear rather numb. This car is definitely at home on the motorway, chewing up the miles! The 18" alloys with low profile tyres on the r design version seem comfortable enough, and are very quiet, from inside, there is hardly any road noise, even at motorway speeds, however they seem to be running out of tread after just 12000 miles. and at £121 per corner, this could get expensive. This said, tax is only £20 per year, which on a car this size, with this much power, that is impressive by any standards.
COMFORT WOW, thats all i have to say about that, The seats in the s60 are very comfortable indeed, i would go as far as saying they are the MOST comfortable seats in a car i have ever sat in. they are that good! They are like little arm chairs, with a padded part leather upholstery, even the head rest seems to be padded with what feels like memory foam. The Seats cushion you along your journey, makes your long journeys so much easier to bear! Combine this with plenty of technology and a comfortable driving position, and heated seats. This is a car comfortable enough to rival the competition, if not better it!
Price I didn't buy this car new, i bought it through the trade, as i am a trader. However looking at the price of the car new, i do think it offers good value for money, when you compare it to its more expensive rivals. However, i would definitely recommend getting one up to a year old, because you can get one much cheaper, and just as good!
VERDICT Overall, i think this is a fabulous car and i am not disappointed with my choice, i was after something that was economical, low tax and above all, comfy. This car is not the most exciting to drive, nor is it the most economical, nor is it the most spacious, but if you do a lot of motorway miles, or even just long journeys, and you are after a car that is VERY comfortable, economical, quiet and a relaxing drive, with plenty of gadgets to make your drive much easier and relaxing and will leave you feeling refreshed, even after a 300 mile journey, look no further! this is the car for you. I am pleased with my choice, and i believe money has been well spent :)
How reliable do you find the car?
No problems as of yet, vehicle seems to be a reliable motor, however, the 18" alloys with low profile tyres on the r design version seem comfortable enough, but seem to be running out of tread after just 12000 miles.About their car
