Volvo S60 (2010 - 2019) T4 (180bhp) SE Lux 4d Powershift Owner Review

T4 (180bhp) SE Lux 4d Powershift
Volvo 2015 S60

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

Purchased second hand with 61000 miles on the clock from an independent Volvo dealer.
The car has surprised me in many ways !

It's medium sized and can seat four adults comfortably, I'm 6.1ft and passengers behind me still have reasonable leg room.

The Se Lux was more appealing comfort wise to me , I found the R Design look a little more aggressive but on the countryside roads I drive on , I found the ride a bit to harsh.

The Se Lux is very comfortable, it's definitely not built to be thrown around bends at speed but it handles very well when driven in family mode.

The power shift transmission gets a bad rep , we had ours drained and refilled, once up to temperature it's smooth, only 1st to 2nd feels a bit harsh which is common , all other gears are buttery smooth , kick down with the 20 second overboost (4100rpm) pushes the Speedo past legal speeds incredibly quickly for a 1.6 ,
we plus the dealer are unsure if we have the polestar tune on our car but as mentioned for a 1.6 it certainly pulls and goes well feeling faster than it should
It never feels like motorway driving is pushing it!

I love the build quality, my only criticism is the paint which doesn't seem particularly thick on this car but zero rust and all the rubbers look great , it's relatively quiet inside, the leather seats are amazing comfy with lots of adjustments.
Steering is nice and can be adjusted sensitivity wise , our car is a high spec and came with everything including the body kit, tinted windows, xenon's ,all except front parking sensors were on the list

The banding lights are subtle in use whilst the xenon bulbs are fantastic at night .

Running costs aren't to bad , I get 356 miles from the 70ltr tank , I average 30-35mpg which isn't fantastic but heavy car vs small engine
Service costs are average too Volvo parts always used which aren't cheap.but do last

The interior is hard wearing and feels premium, very few squeaky bits or rattles , the graphite centre console can scratch easily if not careful but general wear and tear is expected as it's a family car , the boot space for a sedan is okay but of course fold down seats help , the V60 probably would have been the more sensible option but I love the look of the sedan .

The information system is okay , ours plays dvd and has the centre speakers for surround sound which I was surprised how well it works inside a car

The screen is clear , sat nav once you get used to it works well it's not easy to see when driving as no dash display to help .

The main console does have a lot of buttons but I found this not a problem, generally they're for the dvd as nearly all systems can be accessed by hold the exit button on the steering wheel whilst using the scroll wheel to select.

Noticeable mention the active cruise control is pretty amazing, the city safety feature I turned off as driving in a town centre resulted in the system panicking abruptly stopping the car nearly causing a rear end crash , admittedly the pedestrian did step out briefly so the system works but the car behind wasn't anticipating so I'll leave it off
Blind spot is handy in the motorway, always check mirrors any way but it's good it's there
The collision sensors for traffic are quite amazing, any vehicle that suddenly begins hard braking the system kicks in flashing on the screen applying the brakes while you add to the rest.
It's really something to experience.

I'd certainly buy another Volvo S60 , but maybe the later edition, I like the later digital dash as it looks a bit more modern internally.
On the whole I'm very happy and would recommend this car to anyone looking for value and a solid well built feeling car that's great on short or long journeys
