Volvo S60 Saloon (2010-2019) running costs and reliability
Miles per pound (mpp)
Fuel economy
Coming joint first for Volvo S60 running costs is both the D3 and D5 manual that average a decent 53.3mpg while emitting 139g/km of carbon dioxide. They both fall into the VED Band E for road tax while those have their car for business pay for the 19% Benefit-in-Kind company car tax.
Not a bad effort, but the equivalent BMW 320d beats it with its 60.1mpg average and 125g/km CO2 emissions. The most expensive S60 to run, meanwhile, is the powerful petrol T6 AWD. That car averages 28.5mpg.
The greenest, most fuel efficient S60 is the DRIVe version which went on sale in February 2011. That said Volvo S60 emissions overall are pretty good overall especially the diesel versions. The lowest emitting version is DRIVe version with just 114g/km of CO2 – a decent effort for a big car.
Volvo has a decent reputation for owner satisfaction and in a recent survey the brand finished within the top 10. So Volvo S60 reliability should be good especially as the old S60 itself proved tough and durable if not immune friom the odd electrical gremlin. Some of the most serious complaints from Parkers readers involved malfunctioning ECUs which were very costly to replace.
Let’s hope the electrics on the new car are a little more robust.
