Volvo S80 (2006 - 2016) 2.4 D5 (215bhp) Executive 4d Geartronic Owner Review

I do a lot of mileage for work, sometimes as much as 900 miles a week. I needed something with good, refined performance, comfortable, easy to drive and safe and this S80 Executive does all of that and more. I've had several Volvos over the years and this one is the best of the lot. Comfort and refinement is excellent, it's much smoother than earlier versions of the D5 diesel and the performance is effortless and plentiful from any speed. It's no sports car around the bends, the suspension is set up for a comfortable ride, but it's handling is way ahead of earlier Volvo models. The ride itself is soft and compliant, perhaps a bit wallowy at times, but never jarring. There's a bit of road noise, probably noticeable because the mechanical refinement is so good, but essentially progress is made in a serene and hushed waft. The interior fit and finish is superb, with a tasteful blend of traditional and modern; again much better than the already good previous Volvo standards. Equipment levels on the Executive spec are mind boggling. Wall to wall finest leather, real walnut trim, deep pile rugs; massage/heated/cooled seats; 12 speaker Dynaudio sound system; it goes on... Mine also has a DAB radio and the Driver Support Pack (almost self driving) invaluable for high mileage motorway drivers. If you're looking for a very well finished, high quality executive car, as refined as anything in the real world, that's a bit understated but also a bit more exclusive than the usual German offerings, then you can't go wrong here.
