Summary
What does this car say about you?
Someone who likes pretty cars. Someone with kids and a dog. Someone who wanted a volvo and got a ford focus dressed up as one.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They thought it was a sensible choice. Enjoyed long road trips in it. All well aware it was.
Would you buy this car again and why?
NEVER EVER. NO. Not even as a gift. Volvo mechanic of 30 years experience said to me the 2.0d was the worst engine ever fitted to a volvo. Avoid Euro 4 with or without the DPF. ECU's regularly fail. 85K & almost scrap value only!
What are you likely to buy next?
Bought a honda. Had two V40 petrols go to 150k. My V50 was practically scrap at 85K. No more volvos!

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£7,000
When did you buy the car?
November 2010
Did you get a good deal and why?
I thought so at the time. Suspect they had the last laugh as I drove away.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Long family history of owning volvo estates. I liked how the V50 looked and drove. I had just rid myself of a renault and wanted something solid and reliable. Big mistake.
What was the dealer like?
Lovely.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Good. Fast acceleration. Pulled like a train. Good motorway cruiser. Not fun on twisty or bumpy roads.
What's it like to park?
Good. Rear parking sensors make easy. Good all round visibility.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
The alternator went first and within a mile had lost all power, inc steering and kids locked in back. Then the external temp sensor went to -40, then the main ECU began to die, so pretty much all the electrics fried.
What's most practical about your car?
Good MPG. Fast smooth cruiser. Inside very cramped and almost no storage, so not very practical.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Heated seats and parking sensors.
