Volvo XC40 SUV Inscription Pro Recharge T5 Plug-in hybrid FWD auto 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I wanted to downsize and have a plug-in hybrid as most of my daily drives are around 30 miles. I also wanted a quality car that would last me a good number of years to avoid the hassle of trade ins My shortlist came down to a BMW X1 or Volvo XC40 but choosing which one in the pandemic meant that I had to rely largely on expert reviews in the motoring press and, fortunately these reviews were detailed and helped me to decide. It then came down to the dealer experience and the deal which was far from straightforward but in the end the dealer that wanted my business rose to the surface and it was a Volvo dealer !
The car was well prepared for collection and, although the pandemic rules prevented the dealer from giving me in car explanation of all the functions - which are many, but fortunately, largely intuitive. The drive home reinforced my choice of car with its fit and finish, it’s comfort and it’s ride. The whole experience of driving this car brought frequent smiles to my face and positive words from my wife who remarked on how much higher quality the car felt compared to the German car we had traded in.
So, what about the hybrid claims ? Well, the covid restrictions meant that long journeys have not been possible but, despite the very cold weather, I’ve been getting around 22-24 miles on electric running and when the petrol engine has cut in it’s been seamless.
I’m still discovering some of the functions but every time I find them I’m impressed by how much thought has been given to this car by the Volvo designers and engineers. So, would I buy another ? Definitely - but not for many years
