Buying experience

Didn't buy from a dealer
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£30,000
When did you buy the car?
January 2010
Did you get a good deal and why?
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Looks, loading capacity, safety, design features, faster than others in class.
What was the dealer like?

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Good acceleration 40-80mph, i notice tractor like noise at low speed, good cornering for an "tall" car, very solid motorway cruiser, good on twisty country lanes, feels safe, city safety has prevented a couple of bumps.
What's it like to park?
Good for its class. One of the reasons we chose it was because it was shorter (and less wide) than the BMW X5 but had more of less equivalent boot space.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Had a recall covered under warrantee. This was to do with the steering joist. Another fault also covered under Warantee was with the electrics (the sunroof no longer worked). More recently, the drive shaft needs replacing. An independent garage told me that he'd seen a marked decrease in build quality in Volvos recently. Front tyres were bald within 16 months of buying it (les than 10,000 miles covered).
What's most practical about your car?
No lip to the boot, power socket for rear seats, fact it's a big car that's short enough to park easily (ie not as long as others) in central London.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Keyless entry, electric boot, rear parking sensors, folding mirrors.City safety.
