Volvo XC60 (2008 - 2017) D4 (190bhp) SE Lux Nav AWD 5d Geartronic Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
We have only had our 2016 D4 SE Lux nav auto geartronic XC60 for a few days and traded in our 2012 Mercedes C220d coupé. We have just completed a long motorway journey and thought that this might give us an opportunity to check out its comfort and economy.
The car is amazingly comfortable and spacious but compared the Mercedes my impression of the 2.4 190bhp diesel engine is that its noisier and sounds more raucous and less refined. It’s not as responsive and doesn’t have the instant zip of the 5 year older Mercedes. Then there’s fuel consumption. We’ve been used to 55-60mpg on a motorway run in the Merc but as I was looking at the trip computer I thought something must be wrong somewhere because the best I saw was 41mpg very briefly. The general average mpg appears to be around 39-40mpg.
The handling is nothing like as tight and rewarding as the AMG style Mercedes then I suppose that’s to be expected.
Overall we love our new XC60 and I hope will learn to accept and live with the compromises that come with it. The Volvo has many great, benefits and features that the Mercedes didn’t have and we are pleased with the choice we’ve made but the fuel consumption has come as a bit of a shock and the handling slightly less so. It’s going to be a journey of discovery and hopefully a loving relationship.
