Volvo XC90 (2002 - 2014) 2.4 D5 Active 5d Geartronic Owner Review

In their own words
Not had the car long but having paid just £1500 I am delighted with it. I like to research and work on my own cars, these later Xc90’s are a pretty safe bet. The ‘core plug’ issue of early cars has been rectified, though it is not as prevalent a problem as you might have read. I am changing my auxiliary belt ASAP because it can jump and affect the cam belt - big problem.
Clunking transmission is often down to worn mount bushings, not expensive gearbox rebuilds. I’m happy to change these parts myself.
These are not showy cars but you could be anyone driving one, landed gentry or school run specialist!
Safety is superb. That’s why I don’t skimp on rubber. New set of all weather tyres and wheel alignment are a good investment.
Having driven old land rovers in the past, I am not bothered by the so called ‘wallowy drive’, you’re not Lewis Hamilton, relax. And you can relax in these old smokers, it’s hardly Rolls Royce levels of silent wafting, but it ain’t half bad.
The 185hp is quick enough and then some. Unlike Japanese rivals, these things don’t rust!
