Porsche Macan (14-24) rivals
Overview
The Porsche Macan is an SUV that errs on the side of sport, living up to the company’s immense history of building fantastic performance cars. We’d even go as far as saying this small-ish SUV is as good to drive as many out-and-out sports cars.
Because the Macan’s engines go from tepid to scorching, it has a good number of rivals vying for your monthly payment. They include the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X4, Jaguar F-Pace, Range Rover Velar and Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
Despite being the junior Porsche, it’s as premium as you’d hope for. Soft touch furnishings, dashes of alcantara, and healthy amounts of personalisation options make the Macan a great place to spend time.
Its biggest selling point is the way it drives. The steering is sharp and direct while the suspension generally does a good job of absorbing bumps in the road.
As is the case with all Porsches, you’re not spoiled for choice. There are four Macans to choose from. The base model is simply referred to as Macan. Next up is the ‘T’, then there’s the ‘S’, and top-spec is GTS.
Base model and ‘T’ cars make do with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine making 265hp. ‘S’ cars get a 2.9-litre V6 with 380hp, while ‘GTS’ cars have the same V6, but make 440hp. These top-spec cars also get air-suspension as standard.
The Macan range was updated in 2021 to include a new front nose and infotainment system. And there’s also an electric Macan due in 2023. It shares very little with this Macan other than the name
